From the white sands of Hawaii to the idyllic New England seaside, Americans flock to the beach for rest and relaxation. Median home prices in these towns are too expensive for most. But there are some equally charming US locales that boast being affordable beach towns.
SmartAsset, a financial information source, compiled a list of 25 budget-friendly beach cities. Granted, not all of these median prices are on the water. But if you don’t have to book a hotel or drive more than 20 miles to the water, you’re doing ok. Here are the top 10:
It’s Stanley Cup time, so let’s pay homage to America’s top hockey towns. SmartAsset, a financial advice and research company, released its second annual study of America’s Best Hockey Towns. The study takes into account all 129 towns with NHL, minor league and NCAA Division I hockey teams.
Each of the hockey towns was rated with a Quality of Life score based on violent crime, property crimes, disposable income (median income minus median housing costs), dining/entertainment establishments (per 10,000 residents) and unemployment rate. Towns also got a Fan Intensity Score for attendance rate (percentage of the population that attends hockey games), average per-game rate over 10,000 in attendance, and Google searches for the word “hockey”.
